Ever looked at a photo shoot and wondered what happens behind the scenes? We shot Issue 181’s HOT4candy section the other day and it was the first time I’d been on a set. so I was pretty new to the whole thing.

Here’s a short summary of what happens: A lot of standing around for one thing. A lot of swearing at the unpredictable sunlight. A lot of gopher duties (“hey we need pegs for her to hang clothes on the line”. “nah just fake it”. “nah that’s crap. Go buy some pegs”). And a lot of hard work on the part of the model.

I’ve quite obviously never worked as one myself (although when a market appears for quirky looking sub-5’7 girls, sign me up, I hear the money’s great!). I’ve met models, but not worked with them, and always thought that modelling would be a pretty easy gig. You just stand there, right? Wrong.

For one, it was about 30 degrees in the sun, there was no place to change except for down the side of the house (hoping there’s no dirty old pervs living next door), and the combination of bikinis, baby oil and bugs do not make for a comfortable day. While the rest of us were hiding in the shade, lounging around in our jeans and comfy shoes, Berenger, our model, had to put up with all of the above AND look hot doing it.
I don’t take good photos-I tend to pull a stupid face to make up for this-so if you asked me to “pout a little and give us a ‘come and get me’ look”, I’d probably end up resembling a demented fish. But Berenger knows how to pose and I don’t mean that to sound patronising.

She knows what looks hot on her, how to stand, and how to stare down the camera. She also makes it look easy when (as I’ve now learnt) it very much isn’t. I guess what I’m saying here is guys, you REALLY want to see the HOT4candy shoot in Issue 181 because at the end of the day, after all the hard work, Berenger is a gorgeous woman, and we’ve got her doing housework in tiny tiny clothes, just for you lot.
